2012 Update: Our visit this year, found us looking for a new headmaster as the existing one had resigned to go in to “local politics”, and to iron out a few issues we had with the school committee. We also had a meeting with the local Education officer who is now showing an interest in our school. He helped us find the new Headmaster. Our children at Bafuloto graduate to the local primary school which is in the next village called Makumbaya, and whilst we were in the village, we found a new nursery school, which started last year. At the moment they are in a rented building (see front page) and have been asked to move out quite soon. The local Education department had provided them with some money to build a new school on a compound given to the school by the village head. It has yet to be completed. We found that they had very little in the way of equipment, and have agreed to provide them with some, which Alex will organise.
We also paid for the two teachers to attend a three year teacher training course to get proper qualifications. We were unable to go any further with this school and in 2006 started to help another school in Bufaloto...read more
